Climate change is the greatest challenge to the
sustainable development of small island developing
states such as the Maldives. Addressing
climate change is therefore one of our greatest
priorities. The Maldives cannot afford to pay such a price.
The low-lying nature of our islands, coupled with
their geographic dispersion, fragile environment,
remoteness, vulnerability to natural disasters, and
narrow economic base further exacerbates our
vulnerability to climate change.
