‘I see you. I perceive you. You are important to me. I guard your story.’ Since the devastating earthquake in Gyumri in 1988, it has mainly been women who stepped up and assumed responsibility for reconstructing the city. Women in particular start small businesses, build, work, and so provide for the family as small entrepreneurs and skilled workers.

I have to tell you the story of my friends, the fantastic artist group from Gyumri. Years ago, in 2008 to be exact, I met Albert the great sculptor. When I visited him again later, I met his son Hrach, a fantastic painter, with whom I got along great. Together we had a great evening with Karen, a painter and the director of the Aslamanjan Museum in Gyumri. Afterwards we all met Gugo, our photographer friend, at the bar. Great days in Gyumri
